Bulgaria to keep duty-free shops until 2007

According to published reports by Bulgarian News Digest, the legal uncertainty over the renewal of Bulgarian duty-free licences (TRW 1/8/01) is to be resolved. The country will not close the duty-free shops on its territory until it joins the EU in 2007, Bulgarian deputy finance minister Atanas Katsarchev said this week.

Currently, experts are mulling over a plan to extend duty-free licences for another five years. Under the current Customs Act duty-free shops have to be closed down after the expiry of their 10-year licences, but not later than the end of 2002.
