The tenders for seven Bulgarian ports will include duty-free retail operations and are due to be released by mid-2005

Bulgarian Duty-Free Association chairman Radostin Genov has revealed further details of the forthcoming tenders for the operation of Bulgaria's port portfolio, which will include duty-free retail contracts (DFNI November 15).

Genov told DFNI that ports at Somovit, Lesport and Varna still required documentation regulating the tender procedure, but this is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. The documentation for ports at Rousse, Pomorie, Nessebar and Balchik is scheduled for release by the middle of 2005. Administration for the port concession is being prepared by consultancy Eurolex Bulgaria.

The Ministry of Transport and Communication has invited bidders for its port concessions but further details are still being finalised. It is also looking for operators at the two main Black Sea airports, Bourgas and Varna. The contract to manage the airports will run for 35 years, with an option to extend for a further 15 years, and will include the duty-free shops.
