Bucharest tender closes as legal battle continues

(2-Mar-2002) - ROMANIA. EDF Services has begun its legal battle against the Romanian government over its decision to re-tender duty-free at Bucharest Otopeni International airport. EDF Services, which co-owns operator EDF Airport Services Romania (EDF Asro) along with state-owned companies Tarom and airport authority AIBO, has accused the government of illegally terminating the joint venture and ignoring an earlier decision to prolong its activities until 2012.

(16-Oct-2002) - ROMANIA. The Romanian government has launched a tender for the space previously used for duty-free at Bucharest Otopeni airport. The space was put up for tender earlier this year but the process collapsed at the eleventh hour when the government issued a decree abolishing airport duty-free.

(14-Dec-2002) - ROMANIA. Bucharest Otopeni airport authority AIBO has announced the winners of the first tender for the former duty-free retail space at the location. Though airside, the shops will only be permitted to sell duty-paid goods after the Romanian government controversially decided to ban airport duty-free in September (DFNI September 15). All four winning companies are Romanian.

(16-Apr-2002) - ROMANIA. As the dispute between the Romanian government and Bucharest Otopeni airport operator EDF Asro escalates, the retailer?s stores at Otopeni have been closed and its office electricity supply and telephone lines disconnected.
