Brussels qualifies support for Travel Value

9-Nov-2002

The commercial teams from Brussels International Airport Corp (BIAC) and Belgian Sky Shops have said they wish to clarify their support for the Travel Value programme and the use of the logo at Brussels airport

In a joint statement they said: "At the TFWA meeting in Cannes we felt that there was some confusion about Brussels Airport still supporting Travel Value or not. This is probably due to the misinterpretation of a statement that only a minority of our passengers seem to understand or bother to understand the concept, despite huge efforts from the airport and its concessionaires.

"We concluded that next to carrying the Travel Value logo, other marketing efforts were necessary and since 2001 we also stressed on commercial messages that are less technical and easier to understand such as: good prices, lots of choice, quality brands, newest products for every passenger."

The value of the Travel Value message has been brought into question as many European operators prefer to use their own slogans. The Brussels team said: "The Travel Value logo is still present in and outside the airport and we intend to continue to support it.

"The Travel Value concept is the only one carried by several European airport authorities and operators. In our view this is important for the future when the logo will be , even unconsciously, recognised as a quality or best price label for travel-retail."
