Marcel Hungerbuehler will replace outgoing CEO Albert Brunner from February 1 2009
Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) is to promote current chief operating officer Marcel Hungerbuehler to CEO, replacing Albert Brunner from February 1 2009. Hungerbuehler has played a key part in the start-up and operation of the airport and has 38 years’ experience of the aviation industry. He also held management positions with Swissair and Swissport before joining BIAL.
Brunner, who has been CEO at Bangalore airport since 2002 and decided not to renew his contract, led the Bangalore International airport construction project which began in July 2005. The airport opened for commercial operations in May 2008.
He said: “I have greatly appreciated the excellent interactions with business leaders, politicians, officials, the highly competent and motivated staff of BIAL and personal friends over all these years and my decision to leave BIAL is purely personally motivated. I initially came here on a three-year contract but ended up making Bangalore my home for seven years.”
