The US liquor supplier has bought the raspberry liqueur brand in a $255m deal
Brown-Forman has bought French raspberry brand Chambord for $255m, having reached a deal with the brand's owner Charles Jacquin et Cie earlier this month. The acquisition strengthens the US supplier's portfolio of liqueurs, which includes flagship brand Southern Comfort, Italian brand Tuaca and South African liqueur Amarula, marketed by Brown-Forman in the US.
Commenting on the deal, Jacquin et Cie CEO Sky Cooper said: "We believe Brown-Forman is best suited to take the reins of this special brand because we share a common brand-building philosophy, one that has enabled us to build Chambord to where it is today and that will enable Brown-Forman to take the brand to the next stage of global development."
Brown-Forman CEO Paul Varga added: "As a unique, super-premium spirit brand in the fast-growing liqueur segment, Chambord fits nicely with our approach to brand building. We have admired from afar the consistent manner in which it has been built and look forward to developing it further in the many years ahead."
The US has been Chambord's fastest-growing export market of late, in part thanks to its enduring popularity as a cocktail ingredient. Since early 2005 the brand has been distributed in US duty-free by Chase International.
