British Airways has been awarded the coveted Mercury Award at last week's International In Flight Catering Association Awards in Barcelona. The Mercury Award, the Oscar of the inflight catering world, is awarded annually for the greatest innovation and quality of inflight service.

BA won the Mercury Award ahead of 60 other entrants and the Gold in the On Board Products and Concept category. The company said the award recognises its investment programme in innovations, both on the ground and in the air, including the fully-flat bed in business class, new cabin environment and meal service, the Terraces lounges plus the new class World Traveller Plus and Club Europe products.

British Airways' general manager global catering Tony King said: "The products and services which have won us these awards were designed and are being delivered daily as a result of us listening to our customers, understanding what they want and why."
