The airport has enlisted new operators for space in its extended international terminal
Brisbane Airport Corp has decided on new tenants for the expansion of its international terminal after six months of deliberation and over 57 hours of presentations from prospective concessionaires. Brisbane commercial director Barry Kairl told DFNI Asia that the overwhelming response to the request for proposals, reported earlier on RavenFox.com (September 1 2005) had resulted in a high quality offer at the expanded terminal. The full list of new tenants will be revealed and explained in detail next week exclusively on RavenFox.com. Kairl said that the airport's choices reflected the results of several rounds of consumer research in which passengers were asked which brands they wanted to see at the airport. The results of the airport's initial choices and later consumer research were very closely correlated, said Kairl.
"Coffee Club, an Australian chain that started in Brisbane, is a good example," said Kairl. "After it submitted a proposal it got achieved some incredible results in our intial research, which was backed up by later studies."
Kairl added that the new line-up also reflected Brisbane's strong relationships with some existing concessionaires.
The extension will increase the terminal's length to 160m (1,722ft) over two levels and is intended to accommodate increased passenger traffic while optimising commercial revenue. It will include about 25 stores of 120-140sq m (1,291-1,506sq ft) for speciality retail including fashion; three news and book stores of 150-220sq m (1,614-2,367sq ft) in the airside, landside and arrivals areas; and several food and beverage concepts including a noodle bar, a juice bar and a fresh food restaurant.
