Raven Fox urges industry to support children’s charity The Promise by attending Russian Ice Ball

With two months until the annual Raven Fox Charity Ball and Global Travel Retail Awards, organiser Raven Fox is encouraging industry suppliers, agents, distributors, retailers and airport authorities to help raise funds for this year’s charity. They are also invited to cast their votes in the awards, which are announced at the ball.

The 2007 Raven Fox Charity Ball and Global Travel Retail Awards will take place on Friday February 16 at the Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel, London. Proceeds from the Russia-themed ball will go to The Promise, a charity set up to provide better care for children with special needs in Russia.

Thousands of children in Russia are sent to live in orphanages after being diagnosed as oligophrenic, or "small-brained". Such children are often deemed uneducable and have to bear the stigma of being labelled “imbeciles”. They are often denied one-to-one interaction with carers and each other, and are left alone in their cots for long periods.

After working in the Ryazan home south of Moscow in 2002, the founders of The Promise resolved to improve the care offered to the home's children through the Portage teaching technique. With the funds generated by the Raven Fox Ball, the charity hopes to extend the project to other homes in Russia where improvements to childcare are desperately needed.
