The South African retailer hopes to grow turnover at the store after beating currency fluctuations to post a solid performance in 2004
South African retailer Big Five Duty Free is to revamp its 1,500sq m (16,140sq ft) duty-free store at Johannesburg International airport over the next few months. The company hopes to increase turnover at the shop and improve visibility across all product categories, director Paul O'Linn told RavenFox.com. The project should be completed by the end of the second quarter.
"The restructure should enhance the overall appeal of the store and allow passengers to see through the shop," said O'Linn
Big Five Duty Free fared "relatively well" during 2004 compared to the previous year despite fluctuations in the value of the rand, according to O'Linn. He added that sales at the operator's new arrivals store at Cape Town International airport had performed well since opening, particularly in the fragrances and liquor categories.
