Beijing announces Olympics plans
The airport hopes to open a stand-alone Olympics store following the games at Athens this August
Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA) has announced that it will soon stock Olympics branded merchandise in its main duty-free shop. Once the Athens Olympics are over in the third quarter of the year Olympic logo caps, t-shirts, sports bags and rucksacks will be among the products on offer, said BCIA Duty Free Shops deputy general manager Zhang Hong Li.
?We are planning to open a stand-alone Olympic store in the future,? she said, ?but arrangements are not finalised yet.?
BCIA will also open a Frey Wille jewellery shop in mid-September on the site previously occupied by amethyst jeweller Ameth. The Austrian jewellery chain will have a 41sq m (442sq ft) shop.
BCIA is expecting 32m passengers this year, of which 4.6m will be outbound international travellers. Passenger numbers are expected to increase at 15% per year until to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and beyond, the airport said.
