Beijing Capital International Airport's (BCIA) main duty-free shop reopened after a month-long renovation this week, but air conditioning problems are forcing luxury concepts to rethink their positioning

Beijing Capital International Airport's (BCIA) main duty-free shop reopened after a month-long renovation this week. The shop has been split into two sections, with 85% of the space for general merchandise, liquor, tobacco, cosmetics and fashion on passengers' left-hand side after passport control.

?On the right there will be some shop-in-shops and some places for brand positioning,? said a BCIA spokesman. The question of whether Cartier, Hermes and Zegna will open boutiques at the location is still undecided. One issue is understood to be the airport's air-conditioning system: there are concerns that it is located high in the ceiling, so the new boutique area may be too hot unless a separate system is installed. Other products will be sold in these spaces for the time being.
