Coty has appointed Bernd Beetz to succeed Peter Harf as ceo, effective May 1. Harf will continue in his role as company chairman. As part of the agreement, all Coty's prestige business activities including the Lancaster Group will continue to be the direct responsibility of Harf until February 2 2002.

Beetz has been president and ceo of Parfums Christian Dior for more than two years, relaunching the business with a resulting 40% increase in turnover. Commenting on the appointment, Harf said: "We have been searching for someone with proven leadership capability, proven experience in the beauty business and proven operational success. Although I'm relinquishing my responsibilities as ceo, I will continue to work closely with the board and shareholders, and offer my advice on strategy."
