The driving force behind the creation of World Duty Free is among four non-executive directors joining the new board of the airport catering specialist

Food and beverage operator SSP has named four non-executive directors in its new board, headed by CEO Andrew Lynch. The four include former BAA group retail director Barry Gibson, who spearheaded the creation of World Duty Free in 1997. SSP's acquisition by private equity firm EQT was completed last week (RavenFox.com April 9).

Gibson's new position adds to several other non-executive roles held by the former Littlewoods group CEO. He also sits on the boards of onboard retail concessionaire Harding Bros, bookmaker William Hill, National Express Group and Homeserve.

Joining Gibson as non-executive directors at SSP are Vagn Soerensen, member of the IATA board of governors and former CEO at Austrian Airlines; Lena Andersson Hofsberger, who was CEO of SSP between 1990 and 1999; and Dennis Malamantias, former director at Diageo and CEO of Burger King. The SSP board will be completed by four representatives from EQT.

Commenting on the appointments, Lynch said: "I am delighted that we will be supported by a group of highly experienced and respected individuals with such relevant experience. They will make a great contribution to the future development of SSP."
