Bangalore International Airport Ltd has called for expressions of interest in duty-free and food and beverage space at the Indian city's new airport, scheduled to open in April 2008
Bangalore International airport (BIAL), the owner and operator of the new Bangalore airport, has called for expressions of interest for its main duty-free, travel-retail and food and beverage concessions.
The duty-free retail space will span 1,750sq m (18,830sq ft) in departures and arrivals, and the airport will feature a 450sq m (4,842sq ft) mono-brand concept in the domestic departures area. The food and beverage offer will cover bar and kitchen space of 550sq m (5,918 sq ft) in international departures, 260sq m (2,797sq ft) food and beverage space in domestic departures and a coffee bar and seated area of 300sq m (3,228sq ft) in check-in and arrivals.
The retail contract will run for five years with an option to extend for two years, while the food and beverage contract is for seven years with the same extension period. BIAL said it will offer "classical concession contracts" with revenue share and a minimum annual guarantee.
Expression of interest submissions are required by August 25. A tender briefing will be held in Bangalore on September 14-15 with proposals expected by October 25. BIAL expects to award the contract in November.
The existing airport at Bangalore is the fourth-biggest in India. The new airport will be operational by April 2008.
