Swiss fashion group Bally International announced this week it had appointed Marco Franchini as its ceo. He is a former head of Gucci's European operation and also assumes the position of chairman of the Bally board. Franchini takes over the post left vacant after the resignation of Gerald Mazzalovo.

Bally has almost 20 branded airport stores, mostly in Europe and Asia/Pacific.

Franchini said his experience of turning around the formerly struggling Gucci brand would be an advantage in his new role in Bally's rejuvenation.

"If we can replicate a mere fraction of that success, we will be in a very exciting situation," he said.
