The partnership has been appointed as the new duty-free operator at Riga International airport after an auction was held earlier this week

The BTV/Gebr Heinemann partnership has been appointed as the duty-free operator at Riga International airport. It beat competition from Aelia and Inflight Service to take the five-year contract to operate 186sq m (2,000sq ft) of space, available as part of Riga’s terminal extension.

Riga marketing manager rents and concessions Artus Saveljevs told RavenFox.com: “In the end the offer that was pitched at auction was more than we expected, and Inflight Service and BTV/Heinemann tabled the highest bids.”

Under the contract terms the winner must contribute a percentage of sales plus a fixed rent, but at the auction bidders were able to raise the stakes by offering additional rent per square metre.

The new store will sell most of the traditional duty-free product categories, including liquor, fragrances and cosmetics, tobacco and confectionery, apart from local souvenir and liquor products, which will be available in a separate outlet operated by local company Damps. The new duty-free shop will open in June.
