The UK airports group and its retail subsidiary are to add to the campaign to defend duty-free sales under the new security regime implemented at EU airports in November

UK airports group BAA and its retail subsidiary World Duty Free (WDF) is to add its support to the industry campaign on new security measures with a €50,000 ($66,666) contribution to the European Travel Retail Council (ETRC).

WDF managing director Mark Riches said that the contribution was in addition to the “almost full-time” work of BAA business relations director Sarah Branquinho, “who has worked tirelessly alongside ETRC president Frank O’Connell to protect airside retail’s interests within the new regime”.

Riches added: “Our airports and our retail business had no transition period to an enhanced security regime, and our retail businesses were plunged overnight into a new operating environment. We have actively supported the ETRC-led campaign from the beginning of this challenging period and will continue to do so.”
