The airport operator has spoken publicly for the first time about the level of confiscations at Heathrow airport

BAA is confiscating £750,000 ($1.46m) worth of liquor and fragrances each week from transit passengers according to an article in the Daily Telegraph. Since November 6 travellers from elsewhere in the world who transit through the EU, EEA or Swiss airports have had liquids, aerosols and gels over 100ml confiscated at the transit security point.

Commenting on further regulation changes in other countries, BAA retail subsidiary World Duty Free managing director Mark Riches said: “Our responsibility is to ensure that passengers are given the correct information. These things change, so before anyone who will be transferring flights buys anything they should ask.”

World Duty Free offers a full refund to customers who have lost an item bought from one of its stores. Riches told the newspaper that this equated to about 80 customers a week. However he said that sale of liquor and fragrances had recovered from a 20% slump when the rules were first introduced and were only slightly down on the same period last year.
