BAA reports slight growth in retail income

The UK airport operator reported net retail income of £488m ($957.1m) for the nine months to December 31 2006

BAA has announced net retail income of £488m ($957.1m) for the nine months to December 31 2006, which represents growth of £10m ($20m) compared with the previous corresponding period. Despite this increase, income per passenger fell by 0.7% to £4.21 ($8.25) against £4.24 ($8.30) over the same period. During the 12 months to March 2006 net retail income stood at £616m ($1.2bn), with income per passenger at £4.28 ($8.40).

Over the nine-month period ending December 31 2006, World Duty Free (WDF) generated net retail income of £124m ($423.2m), a rise of 1.2% compared with £122m ($239.2m) over the previous corresponding period. In the 12 months ending March 31 2006 WDF achieved net retail income of £152m ($298.1m).

Airside specialist shops performed well, with an increase of 3.3% in net income to £52m ($101.9m) over the nine-month period compared with £50m ($98m) in the previous corresponding period. In the 12 months to March 31 2006, the figure is £66m ($129.4m).

Landside shops and bookshops had negative net retail income of £38m ($74.5m) for the nine months to December 31 2006, representing a decrease of 2.8%. In comparison these shops had net retail income of £49m ($96.1m) in the 12 months ended March 31 2006.
