BAA reports record December

BAA's seven UK airports capped a year of record passenger numbers with their busiest December on record, handling a total of 10m passengers, up 6.2% in December 2002. Throughout the year 131.1m passengers passed through BAA's airports, up 3.6% on 2002, with all but Aberdeen recording their highest-ever traffic levels.

Stansted saw passenger numbers up by 21.4% year-on-year in December, with 2003 traffic growing 16.6% to 18.7m passengers. Southampton's December figures were boosted by its new network of scheduled flights, and it finished the month up 81.7% on December 2002. Heathrow (3.4%), Gatwick (3.9%) and the authority's Scottish airports (2.1%) also registered increases in the month.
