World Duty Free Americas today announced that it is selling its Export Division (Carisam) and is in exclusive negotiations with Motta Internacional.

WDFA said: "While the Export Division of WDFA is a successful and profitable business, it differs operationally from the WDFA duty free retailing business, being primarily a wholesale operation with substantially different product focus and logistical needs."

WDFA president and ceo Ramon Bosquez said: "The sale of our Export Division will enable greater focus on our retail business, now headquartered in Glen Burnie, and further help in developing the growth potential of this business."

The Export business comprises four elements:

  • Servicing cruise ships out of Miami and Baltimore
  • Wholesaling to resorts eg. in the Caribbean
  • Selling to embassies and foreign diplomats based in the US
  • Supplying commercial ships on the eastern seaboard
