The UK airports group lends its support to victims of the tsunami disaster

BAA is to support humanitarian relief efforts following the Asian earthquake. The group's charity The Communities Trust is to donate £50,000 ($94,169) to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which comprises several UK-based charities active in the relief efforts.

The UK airports group has also waived airport charges for all specially-chartered relief flights operating from its seven UK airports and has placed collection points in airport terminals to encourage donations from passengers and airport staff.

BAA CEO Mike Clasper said: ?The majority of Britons affected by the Asian earthquake began their journey to the affected regions from a BAA airport and our charity, The Communities Trust, exists to assist local and global community projects.  As this tragedy affects our travellers, staff and local communities, BAA sees it as important to assist those most directly affected.?

The charities forming DEC include British Red Cross, CAFOD, Care International UK, Christian Aid, Concern, Help the Aged, MERLIN, OXFAM, Save the Children UK, Tearfund and World Vision UK.
