Airport authority BAA has hailed the success of its inaugural Heathrow Travel Product Awards, presented at a prize-giving ceremony yesterday (May 18) in the Rhubarb restaurant at London Heathrow airport terminal three attended by representatives from BAA and all the winning retailers—including World Duty Free, Dixons, Harrods, WH Smith and Rolling Luggage.

BAA retail concessions director Brian Woodhead told DFNIonline: “We are very happy with the reception of the awards and will now take stock for next year’s event. We may implement changes to the format, but it is too soon to discuss that. The fact that every retailer was present at the awards ceremony shows that they have taken it seriously.”

More than 23,000 votes were cast over four weeks on the microsite created for the awards. The products were nominated by retailers at Heathrow and voted for by the general public. All winners will be able to feature the Heathrow Travel Product Awards logo on packaging and in advertising, and participating stores will also promote the winning products this month.
