BAA faces challenge to "tax-free prices" slogan
20-Dec-2001
?
UK trading standards officers are investigating complaints about
posters at BAA's airports advertising "Tax-free prices for all
passengers after security control". Passengers who saw the posters
at Stansted airport said they had been misled into believing that
all prices would be 17.5% lower than in the high street.
BAA's latest poster campaign carries the slogan "All passengers
travelling through BAA airports to any destination - whether within
the European Union, to non-EU countries or even on domestic flights
- can do their Christmas shopping at tax-free prices."
Head of trading standards for the Stansted area, Christine
Wade, confirmed to TRW there had been two complaints. "We're in
discussion with our colleagues responsible for other airports where
similar posters are on display to decide how to respond," she
said.
