"Awesome Threesome" line up for Cochin event

Senior executives from India's main duty-free retailers Alpha Asia, Flemingo International and India Tourism Development Corp will address the first India Duty Free Workshop next week

The first India Duty Free Workshop is to be held at Le Meridien hotel in Cochin next week (February 21-23), with a strong turnout of senior managers from retailers, suppliers and airports scheduled to attend.

The opening panel session on the first morning of the workshop promises to be one of the event's highlights, with India's main duty-free retailers teaming up to discuss the future of the country's travel-retail industry. Dubbed the Awesome Threesome, the panel will feature Alpha Asia managing director Paul Topping, India Tourism Development Corp vice-president NK Piplani and Flemingo International director Mahendra Thakar. Flemingo managing director Rasik Thakker will also attend the debate.

Other sessions likely to provoke lively debate at the Workshop are panel discussions on the issues facing confectionery and liquor in Indian duty-free, and the future for the country's luxury goods market. Keynote addresses will be delivered by Cochin International Airport Ltd managing director VJ Kurian and Deccan Air managing director Cpt Gopinath.

The social side of the event also promises to be memorable, with highlights including an opening cocktail sponsored by Jack Daniel's before a party hosted by Cadbury, a gala dinner sponsored by Diageo and a firework display.
