Auckland International airport's growing retail business is to be boosted by a 30% increase in seat capacity when it unveils its summer schedule, commencing in October. The schedule incorporates new routes from Emirates, Asiana Airlines and Royal Brunei Airlines, flying to Auckland for the first time. However, Auckland's ceo Don Huse said that the timetable did not include the extra passengers gained from new Virgin Blue flights, which the airline has indicated it will begin operating in the coming months.

The airport, which reported retail revenues of A$39.5m ($23.9m) in the second half of 2002, up over 30% on first half results, said that it anticipated the increased flight schedule to encourage further growth of international visitors to Auckland during New Zealand's summer season. The airport welcomed over 2.7m international visitors in 2002, a 7.3% increase on 2001.
