Auckland International Airport Limited has announced an 8.3% increase in retail revenue for the second half of 2006.

Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL) has posted an 8.3% rise in first-half retail income for the six months ending December 31 2006. AIAL noted that following completion of the new upper level on the international terminal pier, and the opening of new duty-free and speciality stores in September 2005, retail trading has improved.

Retail income per international passenger (including transit and transfer) increased by 6.8% to NZ$12.62 (US$8.58) in the first six months. This comes on top of the 7.9% year-on-year growth in retail income per international passenger achieved in the second half of the 2005/06 financial year.

Total passenger movements increased by 1.4% with the number of international passengers, excluding transfers, rising by 0.8%. There was good growth in arrivals from markets including Australia, the UK and the US, supported by newer markets including China and India. Domestic passenger movements also increased by 1.9% over the same period.

AIAL chairman John Maasland said: “This is a pleasing result. The company delivered increases across all of its main revenue lines.”

A redevelopment programme of the international terminal departures retail and food and beverage precinct is under way at the airport. An expanded arrivals duty-free offer will open in June 2008.
