Asian boost for Northwest

13-Dec-2001

?

Northwest Airlines will begin a daily service between Tokyo and Pusan, South Korea and Kaohsiung, Taiwan effective April 18.

Northwest will operate Airbus A320 aircraft on the new routes, which it will also begin using on its current daily service between Tokyo and Taipei. The new service reflects the opening of a new second runway at Tokyo's Narita airport and the grant to Northwest of 28 weekly slots on that runway. At the same time, Northwest will extend its service between Detroit and Osaka, Japan by adding a routing between Osaka and Taipei with a 747-400 service.

?This is an important development for Northwest,? said executive vice-president sales and information services Phil Haan. ?With these additions, Northwest is uniquely positioned to provide the most comprehensive and most convenient services to customers with travel destinations to Asian markets beyond Tokyo.?
