Aruba’s Queen Beatrix International airport is preparing to open new retail stores by the end of the year

Aruba’s Queen Beatrix International Airport is to open new retail stores by the end of the year. The island has pledged to spend $35m at the airport, which is one of the first locations to benefit.

As well as the development of a private jet terminal, the airport will undergo renovations and new retail and catering facilities will open before the end of the year.

Eight out of nine retail concessions to be built were awarded towards the end of last year. The fragrances and cosmetics, liquor and tobacco store and delicatessen will be operated by Dufry Aruba. The souvenirs and toys, books and magazines outlets will be operated by De Wit & Van Dorp Stores. The fashion, accessories, jewellery and sunglasses store will be operated by Kok Optica. The electronics concession has yet to be determined.

Aruba airport authority head of commerce Barbara Brown told RavenFox.com: “Some of these same concepts will also be exploited within the departure gate areas. The redevelopment of our main retail area will be done in various phases and as a result the retail offer will be limited during August and September.”
