New fee of C$20 will be used to finance investments in Canada’s airports

Aéroports de Montreal (AdM) has announced that airport improvement fees will increase by C$5 ($5) to C$20 ($20) for passengers departing Montreal Trudeau airport from January 4 2008. The fee, first introduced in November 1997, was created to finance investments in Canada’s airports.

AdM CEO James Chery said: “AdM has invested more than C$1.1bn ($1.1bn) in its airport infrastructures since 2000, including some C$750m ($750m) to complete the Montreal Trudeau modernisation and expansion programme. In addition, we are doing C$190m ($190m) worth of work this year, in particular on the new trans-border departures area, and we are planning to invest another C$600m ($600m) or so by 2012 to meet growing needs.”
