Airports of Thailand is reassessing its speciality retail space at Don Muang and four international airports in Thailand

Airports of Thailand (AoT) plans to review the use of commercial space at Don Muang and four international airports in Phuket, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai in a bid to increase revenues from 37% to 45% of total non-aeronautical income by 2010, according to reports from The National (Thailand). The news comes as AoT also proposed to re-open Don Muang as an international airport for low-cost airlines.

Shops at these airports will be regrouped according to a new zoning policy under the supervision of a Thammasat University team. AoT is also considering the addition of new outlets to meet passenger demand, such as coffee and fast-food shops.

King Power International Group (Thailand) operates the duty-free space at Phuket and Chiang Mai and is still locked in a legal dispute with AoT about the validity of its contract at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport.
