Further dramatic passenger falls at Antalya airport terminal one force the airport group's overall traffic figures down

The Fraport Group recorded a 6.8% drop in passenger traffic across its portfolio of airports in the first quarter of 2006.  The decline was attributed to harsh weather conditions resulting in flight cancellations at Frankfurt, late Easter holidays and further dramatic declines at Antalya airport terminal one following the transfer of traffic to the new T2. Fraport claimed that without the calendar effect of this year's late Easter, passenger traffic in March for the group's six locations would have grown. As it was, traffic in March slipped by 2.4%.

Low-cost hub Frankfurt Hahn welcomed 11.4% more passengers between January and March than in the same period last year, while Hanover's traffic rose by 1.9%. However, Frankfurt International and Saarbrücken airport suffered declines of 2.4% and 9.3% respectively.

Of Fraport's non-German airports, traffic at Lima grew by 3.6% while numbers at Antalya T1 fell by 87.7%.

Fraport said it expected the Easter holidays to produce a significant increase in passenger figures for April.
