Amsterdam Schiphol reports 15.4% passenger growth

The airport's April traffic numbers reflect an improving trend after a troubled 2003

Amsterdam Schiphol airport welcomed 3.49m passenger in April, up 15.4% on the same month last year. Schiphol Group reported that travel to intercontinental destinations, which last year was affected by the Iraq war and SARS, climbed con-siderably.

Total air transport movements grew by 3.5% in April 2004 over the same period last year. Reflecting a return to normality after the month in 2003, when several airlines cancelled services in response to the decline in demand, resulting in a 4.7% drop in the number of flights in April 2003.

For the year to the end of April, Amsterdam served 12.35m, up 7.4% on the same period last year.
