Amsterdam Schiphol records strong May traffic

29-Jun-2004

Passenger volume at Amsterdam Schiphol airport rose by 13.2% in May over the same month last year, according to figures from operator Schiphol Group. The group reported that the number of originating and departing passengers grew strongly, by 10.6%, while transfer traffic also increased.

The growth was attributed to a recovery from the effects of SARS and the Iraq war last year, as well as the fact that
many Dutch people booked their holidays in May because of the two-week spring school holiday period.

The group said low-cost segment also saw robust growth as a result of Czech airline Smartwings' recent move to Schiphol with regular services to Prague. Seven low-cost carriers now operate flight services to and from Amsterdam.
