Alpha's local heroes honoured at Asian awards

The winners of the inaugural Alpha Asia Heroes scheme were announced at a black-tie event in Sri Lanka last week

Alpha Retail's first Asian awards ceremony took place in Columbo, Sri Lanka last week. Over fifty of Alpha's Asia staff were presented with seventeen prizes totalling $50,000 in front of hundreds of their colleagues.
 
The top awards went to the Airport Shift B Team, who took home the Overall Alpha Heroes Team Award, and UMN Ravidhashana, who received the Overall Alpha Asia Heroes Individual Award.
 
Alpha Asia managing director Paul Topping said: "To me, all of my team are heroes. Now, through the Alpha Asia Heroes programme, we are able to give a very special and public thank you to those members of staff who have really stood out from the crowd. On behalf of everyone at Alpha Asia, I would like to congratulate all of our winners and finalists—their success is extremely well-deserved."
 
The Alpha Heroes scheme began in the UK in 2004, designed to motivate staff and reward excellence across Alpha's retail and catering locations. The Sri Lanka awards followed the second UK Alpha Heroes awards held in Birmingham on April 4. There are plans to extend the scheme to all Alpha's international businesses by the end of 2006.
