The retailer will open a World News Café at the UK airport later this spring
Alpha Retail Catering has won a new arrivals concession at Birmingham International airport terminal one to operate a food and beverage area under the World News Café fascia. The outlet, previously a Délice de France café, will open later this spring.
The new café will be adjacent to Alpha's World News store, which it opened in January after winning a seven-year contract last October. Alpha also operates a World News store in Birmingham T2 plus Bookbound outlets in both terminals.
Alpha Retail Catering managing director Jerry Robinson said: "this is great news for Alpha and the World News brand. Our presence at Birmingham has always been strong and the arrivals café win, coupled with the CTN (confectionery-tobacco-news) contract, mark the continuation of that relationship."
Alpha Retail is also competing for the duty-free contract at Birmingham, where it is the incumbent operator. French operator Aelia is the other finalist in the bidding for the five- to seven-year contract (DFNI February 1). A result is expected to be announced in April.
