Alpha wins Birmingham extension
Alpha Retail has won the tender to operate duty-free at Birmingham International airport in the UK
Birmingham Airport head of commercial department Ray Savage confirmed Alpha's appointment subject to the finalisation of the contract.
The incumbent retailer beat competition from French operator Aelia to secure the seven-year contract at the airport, where it also operates catering and news concessions. The contract will run from the end of December 2005.
Alpha Retail managing director David King told RavenFox.com: "The whole team is really delighted as we have had a presence at the airport for over 30 years and won what has proved to be a truly international tender. We would like to think that we came up with a better offer in terms of the entire package and that Birmingham airport has valued our relationship over the years."
The contract includes over 2,200sq m (23,680sq ft) of retail space and incorporates a new 1,110sq m (11,948sq ft) store in terminal one.
