In a huge boost to its UK business, Alpha Retail will replace incumbent The Nuance Group as the anchor retailer at Manchester airport terminals two and three from next January.

The company, which already operates in terminal one, was invited to tender for the contracts in February, as the airport authority moved to create a single retail identity for the airport's main stores, including duty-free.

From January 1, Alpha will control all the airport's liquor, tobacco and fragrances business, which is particularly crucial in terminal two, where half of flights are to non-EU destinations.

The contracts in terminals two and three are for five-years, while Alpha also has a seven-year contract in terminal one.
