Alpha acquires foothold in Middle East flight services

Alpha Airports Group announced today that it has been successful in the tender by the Jordanian Government for the privatisation of the Jordan Flight Catering Co in Amman. This is the first flight kitchen privatisation to take place in the Middle East and provides Alpha with its first operation in the region. The company narrowly missed out in the Jordan Airports Duty Free privatisation last July which was sold to Aldeasa for $60.1m.

Alpha acquired 51% of Jordan Flight Catering, for £8.8m ($12.8m), with 29% to be held by Alpha's local Jordanian catering partners, Eastern Investment and Development Co, and 20% remaining with Royal Jordanian Airline.

The acquisition is in line with Alpha's strategy to grow its flight services network into Europe and the Middle East. Alpha ceo Kevin Abbott commented: "We are delighted to have been selected by the Jordanian Privatisation Committee. We will make Alpha Jordan a showcase for our international customers, and aim to become the undisputed flight caterer of choice in future privatisations in this developing Middle East region."
