The retail joint venture has commenced its operation at Indira Gandhi International airport

Alpha Future, the joint venture between Alpha Retail and Pantaloon Retail (India), today (March 28) opened its duty-free stores at Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi. The outlets—one in arrivals and four in departures—cover about 8,000sq ft (744sq m) in total.

Among the highlights of the new offer are: a liquor and tobacco section offering more than 200 product lines, including malt whiskies, exclusive vodkas and cognacs; a 900sq ft (84sq m) fragrances and cosmetics department offering makeovers and sampling for the first time in India; a 1,100sq ft (102sq m) fashion and accessories area selling sunglasses, watches, pens, stationery, crystalware, jewellery and men’s accessories; and a wide confectionery offer including more than 15 basic product lines and a range of premium chocolates. A unique destination shop will sell exclusively Indian products including tea, incense sticks, jewellery, music and Ayurvedic medicine.

Alpha Asia managing director Paul Topping said: “Alpha Future will offer customers an exciting new duty-free experience at Delhi airport and is well positioned to better serve the needs of Indian travellers, whom today are among the biggest duty free spenders in the world.”

Alpha Future’s three-year contract at the airport is expected to be worth sales of $110.6m.
