Walkout set to be staged on August 14-15

Employees of Spanish travel retail operator Aldeasa at Madrid Barajas airport have been urged to walk out on August 14-15. The strike, set to take place at Aldeasa stores in Spain’s largest airport, represents the second stage of disruption by trade unions CGT and UGT in their pursuit of better working conditions.

The unions held previous strike action on July 30-31 and August 1, but the degree of success claimed by UGT and CGT – that 80% of Aldeasa’s 670 personnel at Barajas adhered to the walkout – has been disputed by the company, which said the figure was 36%. Further industrial action is being planned for August 31, September 1-2 and 15-16.

The strikes called by CGT and UGT do not have the support of USO and CCOO, the majority trade unions in the workers committee at the Spanish travel retailer. Both these unions signed a collective bargaining agreement with the Aldeasa management at the end of July.
