Portuguese authority ANA Aeroportos de Portugal and the Spanish retailer join forces to modernise retail at Lisbon, Oporto and Faro airports

Portuguese airport authority ANA Aeroportos de Portugal and Spanish airport retailer Aldeasa have agreed to set up a joint-venture company to manage and develop commercial outlets at the mainland Portuguese airports of Lisbon, Oporto and Faro.

Following a selection process involving more than 20 candidates, ANA have signed an agreement with Aldeasa to draw up a business plan to modernise the retail activities at the three airports. This initial phase is expected to take six months, after which a joint-venture company, named ANA Retalho, will be set up to carry out the new plan for a period of at least seven years.

Both companies believe that retail income will double in the initial seven-year period and that the new commercial image of the retail outlets will be in line with the best in the world.

Aldeasa already operates specialist outlets in all three airports as well as a general duty-free shop in the recently renovated international airport on the island of Madeira.
