The Spanish retailer will compete aggressively in tenders across the world, insists Javier Gomez Navarro

At a working breakfast with a selection of Spanish economic journalists, Aldeasa president Javier Gomez Navarro confirmed the retailer's aggressive plans to grow through contract gains and acquisitions across the world.

Gomez Navarro said that the company would compete aggressively in the tenders at Sydney and Saudi Arabia in order to reduce its dependence on Spanish airports, which account for more than 75% of the company's turnover. Growth by acquisition was another possibility if the right opportunity arose, he added. Finance could be secured through a capital injection from the company's shareholders or the sale of assets, such as Aldeasa's Madrid headquarters in Calle Ayala or its various warehouses throughout Spain.

According to Gomez Navarro, sales in the first quarter of 2006 "have progressed very well" and were in line with the company's forecast. Sources confirmed to Ravenfox.com that sales at Aldeasa's new outlets in Madrid Barajas terminal four were ahead of expectations.

Gomez Navarro also confirmed to journalists that the company would mount a vigorous defence of its contract with AENA at other Spanish airports. "We are working hard to present the most competitive offer," he said.
