The Spanish retailer begins trading at Hato International on Friday December 17 after securing the five-year duty-free contract in October

RavenFox.com understands that Spanish travel retailer Aldeasa?currently the subject of a hostile takeover bid?will open a new 245sq m (2,636sq ft) general duty-free store in the departures area at Hato International airport in Curaçao today. Aldeasa won the five-year contract to operate duty-free at the airport in October.

In addition to the core categories of fragrances, liquor and tobacco, Aldeasa will offer a range of destination merchandise, including local rum punches and liqueurs.

Curaçao Airport Partners, which is now building a new terminal due to open in early 2006, has a 30-year management contract to operate Hato International. Once the new terminal opens Aldeasa will transfer its duty-free shop to the new building.
