Aldeasa has unveiled its new departures store at Cancún International airport terminal three

Madrid-based duty-free operator Aldeasa has opened a 1,850sq m (19,900sq ft) store at Cancún International airport’s new $100m terminal three. The store, which is one of the biggest in Central and Latin America, was completed in under two months and opened last weekend (May 26) in time to cater for the first passengers to use the new terminal.

Mexican airports operator Grupo Aeropuertos del Sureste (ASUR) commercial director Manuel Gutierrez said the new terminal would take the bulk of the airport’s international traffic. He told RavenFox.com: "We expect 65–70% of the airport’s traffic to use the new terminal. T2 has been operating at full capacity for the past few months and the opening of the new terminal will allow us to look after our customers in accordance with the highest international service standards in both terminals."

Sales have also started well at T3, according to Aldeasa general manager for Mexico Nancy Santarelli. "Sales have been higher on a per passenger basis on all the flights that have passed through the new terminal so far—to date customers seem to be enjoying the new shopping environment," said Santarelli. "We expect our outlets in T2 will be less congested and that sales per passenger will improve there."

Aldeasa has also opened a 237sq m (2,550sq ft) arrivals outlet at the new terminal.
