French travel-retailer Aelia has secured its third airport location in Poland, at Poznan Lawica airport. Aelia will operate a 40sq m (430sq ft) outlet selling liquor, tobacco, beauty, confectionery and accessories in the airport’s new non-Schengen area.
The contract at Poland’s fifth biggest airport will run for five years. The airport handled 420,000 passengers in 2007 and passenger traffic is forecast to grow by 60% in 2008. Aelia’s shop will serve non-Schengen passengers, including high spending traffic from the UK, and passengers flying to non-EU destinations, including charter traffic to Turkey, North Africa and Egypt.
The Poznan contract follows earlier gains at Warsaw and Krakow airports, where Aelia International business development deputy director John Rimmer said the company has made a successful start. Rimmer said: “Following our openings in Warsaw and Krakow we now have the base and the experience to grow in Poland and Eastern Europe. We are studying forthcoming opportunities in Poland and are very active in the region as a whole.”
