Abu Dhabi appoints new aviation chief

HE Dr Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saif Al Nahyan becomes chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Civil Aviation by decree of HH the President Sheikh Khalifa

The current chairman of Etihad Airways, Sheikh Ahmed was under-secretary for the Department of Civil Aviation from 1992 to 2000 as well as president and CEO of Gulf Air from 1996 to 2000. He was appointed chairman of GAMCO in 2001. He has also trained pilots in the UAE armed forces on Boeing 767s and is a qualified commercial captain on the Airbus A340.

Sheikh Ahmed's predecessor Sheikh Hamdan was recognised for his success in promoting aircraft safety in 1999 when he became the eighth person worldwide to be decorated with the official apparel of Liveryman of the Guild.
