Abu Dhabi Duty Free plans border shop expansion

The company announces plans to expand its Ghweifat border store between the UAE and Saudi Arabia
Abu Dhabi Duty Free is to expand its Ghweifat store at the border between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, which opened in 2002. The move comes as the number of travellers between the two states grows, fuelled by Arab pilgrims travelling for Haj or Umrah, Arab expatriates going home on holidays, visitors of other Arab countries who come to the UAE to attend festivals and tourists who pass through the UAE on holiday.
The border point now handles around 1.6m travellers a year.
The retailer plans to expand the 375sq m (4,035sq ft) duty-free store, which offers fragrances and cosmetics, tobacco, jewellery, confectionery, watches, electronics, leathergoods, cameras, household appliances, audio/video, toys, sports goods and luggage. It also offers food and toiletries, plus Arabic souvenirs.
Full details will appear in DFNI August 1.
