The association’s eleventh conference in the Peruvian capital highlighted strong regional recovery during the first half of 2007 and how members have shrugged the impact of security restrictions on liquids

Asociacion Sudamericana de Tiendas Libres (ASUTIL) president Walter Zeinal officially opened the trade association’s eleventh annual conference in the Peruvian capital Lima this week. Although the duty-free trade in the region had suffered as a result of the security measures affecting liquids and gels, both Zeinal and ASUTIL secretary general Jose Luis Donagaray confirmed that business had recovered.

The first half of the year was extremely buoyant for member operators and suppliers and, according to Donagaray, ASUTIL members reported sales were up by over 33% for the first six months of the year.
